These people might be crazy ...

So, my friend and fellow BYU alum Austin Craig (you might know him as the Orabrush guy) is getting hitched in the near future, and he and his soon-to-be wife Beccy are embarking on quite an ambitious feat:

They're gonna live on bitcoin for the first three months of their marriage.

***crickets***

If you're like I was last week and you're going "What the heck is a bitcoin and why should I care?" then read/watch this thing first. Bitcoin is basically digital currency that you can transfer "peer-to-peer," which might ring a bell if you ever downloaded music illegally back in the 2000's -- not that I know anything about that at ALL. It can also be converted into dollars, Euros, yen, you name it. And you can even "mine" bitcoin, which doesn't make a lick of sense to me but it's cool, I guess.

Bitcoin's not a big thing quite yet, which is why I think the Craigs might be crazy people (but super-nice and talented crazy people). Just watch this and tell me you aren't intrigued:

Why am I blogging about this, other than to speculate about the mental stability of others? Well, for starters, I really admire Austin. I had the privilege of working with him in the broadcasting program at BYU and I'm always impressed by his work. Second, as you just saw, Austin and Beccy want to make a movie about their bitcoin adventures and they need our help! So, they've launched a Kickstarter project to fund their documentary (and ONLY their documentary -- they're figuring out the rest on their own).

I'm certainly excited about this, so today I became a backer on Kickstarter (P.S. -- have I told you lately that I love Kickstarter? I really do). To learn more about their brilliant (and possibly insane) idea, check out their Website, Life on Bitcoin.

What do you think? Are these kids loony bin material or are they awesome?

  1. Wow. That's really crazy! I wish them the best of luck. Can't wait to see how it pans out.
