Sick, sick, sick.

We're sick.

The kids are more sick than I am, but we're all sick. Coughing. Snotty noses. So fun. That hopefully explains the drought in posting.

In the meantime, we've been watching a lot of Netflix on the Wii. So far this week, we've watched:

A few documentaries about Disney parks and cruises

Babies

The Business of Being Born (well, I watched that one by myself)

I even managed to squeeze in a couple segments of 10 Minute Solution: Pilates. Bubby tried to do it with me but gave up after about 30 seconds, saying, "This is too crazy and it hurts."

I'd like to comment more on The Business of Being Born, but I have a lot to say and want to make sure I cover all my bases. So, I'm saving it for another day.

As for Babies, it's delightfully cute. It probably could have been about 20 minutes shorter, but it was fascinating nonetheless. And my kids loved it, too. Definitely a must-see. What's not to love about cute babies?

Any other documentaries you'd recommend?

  1. I would recommend "The September Issue." It's a documentary about... wait for it... the September issue of Vogue. It's almost painful to watch some of the people bend over backwards to make the head boss lady happy, but it was fascinating.

"Every Little Step" chronicles the casting of "A Chorus Line." Cool glimpse into how Broadway functions, and I love dancing. It does have some swears, FYI.

"It Might Get Loud" if you're in to rock and roll. It shows Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Jack White (White Stripes) and The Edge (U2) all talking about their background and how their creative process goes down. Joel really liked it.

And Babies--I agree with you on the "could be 20 minutes shorter" thing. I really got weirded out by the SF Mom and baby who were going to play dates where they sang Native American songs about brother sun and sister sky. It was a little too granola for me.

  2. LOVED Business of Being Born. Can't wait to hear what you have to say.

  3. Loved both of those! If I have another baby, I'm going to seriously consider having it at home. I have a lot of friends that have delivered at home. Lifetime has this new show called, "One Born Every Minute" and the hospital is JUST exactly like the documentary. Not many options, and if you do speak up, nurses and doctors are annoyed. When I was in nursing school my Labor and Delivery rotation gave me the 'other' perspective and I'm a big defender of nurses, but let's just say after I saw the documentary I was like, "WOW, that's exactly right! Hospitals are totally a business" Can't wait to hear your review!

  4. I heard that "maternal nudity" could get a little overwhelming in Babies. I haven't seen it, but the students' opinion mentioned a high amount of "titties". Sorry, was that too brash of a word? ha ha.

  5. I really liked watching Super Size Me (but I think everyone and their dog has already watched this one) and Food Inc. Both really interesting and make you think twice about what you eat.

  6. sorry you guys are all sick! that's the worst.

i LOVED babies. funny story... we saw it in the theatre, and when it first showed the topless african mother, clint loudly proclaimed, "does that happen?!?!" and now refers to them as 'banana boobs' hahaha.

anyway, i would also recommend food inc. if you haven't already seen it.

  7. We just finished King Corn. It's about two guys that plant a acre of corn in Iowa and try to figure out where it's going to end up in our food system. It was really good! Also, Up Syndrome was fantastic. It's a friend of a down syndrome guy in his 20's and he simply follows him around and films what they do together. It puts a very positive and hilarious light on people living with disabilities.

  8. I have been wanting to see both of them but have not gotten around to it yet, hopefully soon! I will enjoy what you have to say about them... as for being sick, I REALLLLY hope we didn't pass it to you! I would feel terrible. We ALL have had the exact same stuff. It lasts for about 2 weeks total, hang in there and maybe in the next 2 weeks or so we can get together!

I like feedback almost as much as I like food.
