Can't carry a tune in a bucket.

Did you all see my guest post at A Mormon Mommy yesterday? It's all about blog envy and how you can combat it. Because no one likes a green-eyed monster, right? And blogs are meant to be fun! Go check it out if you haven't.

I had my East Valley Mormon Choir audition last night. It went really well. So well, in fact, the director said "You're in!" ... as long as I can come up with a "strong male singer" to join the choir with me. He likes his choirs to be balanced and I can't blame him; I've been in my fair share of top heavy choirs and it's not exactly fun. So, I'm trying to find a lucky schmuck to audition in the meantime. If you could help me out, I'd appreciate it. If not, it's OK. Some things aren't meant to be. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little sad, but hope's not entirely lost yet!

But Jenna, why don't you just wrangle your husband into auditioning? That's a good question and I have a brilliant answer to go with it: while Dill is expertly skilled in growing beards, talking bidniss on phones and playing Zelda, he cannot carry a tune in a bucket. If he had to sing on pitch to live, he'd be dead. It's not mean; it's true. He knows it and so does anyone who has sat within a 10-ft. radius of him at church. No, I was not tricked into marrying him. It's just that his awesomeness in other areas of life more than compensates, so it's all good!

But one thing's sure: I love my tone-deaf bearded finance + Zelda expert..

Does the look on Bubby's face not melt your heart out? Hello, cuteness!

Question of the day: What mad skills does your husband/significant other possess?

  1. Hmm...My sweetie can sing. It totally melts me and I can't wait until he can sing lullabies to our baby! He also is wicked creative with writing, and has an awesome sense of humor.

*sigh* I'm so in love with him!

Oh, and your Bubby's face is just adorable. She's so stinking cute!!!

  2. Tyson is the same way, although I think I was the first person to point it out to him! He even joined a ward choir once and they sort of asked him not to cone back. Ha. Wish I could have seen that. He loves to sing though. That's the bad thing. He loves Neil diamond and thinks he sings it great. He is fine in a little range, but don't get him outta that range! I'll take beard growing over singing any day though. Dillons looking awesome! Kinda the wring time for a beard though. Ha.

  3. Yes! Being Dillon's sister, I can totally back you up on the "totally tone deaf" thing. Poor guy. You're right, you're not being mean, just honest.

Scott can iron like a maniac. It's pretty impressive (and maybe a little sad) that he irons more than I do!

  5. Melanie, Dillon's good at ironing, too! Thank goodness because I'm the worst.

  6. HA! Chad can't sing to save his life either. Don't know if he could grow a beard either! LOL! But, he can plan a budget that would make Dave Ramsey weep with giant tears of joy! LOL!
And he's an awesome Dad, that alone makes up for any lack of musical talents right there.

  7. haha my husband is the same way and he always sings really loud in church. He knows he can't sing, but he's convinced that he sounds better if he sings louder. It's hilarious. Thanks for stopping by on my SITS day!

  8. You guys are really harsh. I remember when it was decided that Dil was tone deaf, but I felt really bad about it when I heard him singing along with the radio just fine. I think the trick is hearing the song 100+ times. You can do it, just practice! :)

  9. Mark, I know that's you! I've been married to Dill for 5 1/2 years and have never heard him sing in tune. But I guess you've been his brother longer ... I wish Dill wasn't tone deaf, but it's a fact and I've decided not to bother with it anymore. Instead, I capitalize on his other talents. Like changing poopy diapers.

  10. Congrats on the audition. If my we lived anywhere near you I'd lend my husband's musical talents. He's got a phenomenal instrument in that windpipe of his.

Additionally, he has mad excel skills that he'd be happy to show anyone at any time. And if you'd like, he would be happy to engage you in a lengthy discussion about excel and it's many wonderful attributes. On his resume he refers to himself as an excel jedi. ON HIS PROFESSIONAL RESUME.

  13. My husband can sing - he is amazing. Sang a lot with Jeff McLean in fact (Michael McLean's son), he is very musical and plays piano and guitar.

He can't cook though. Unless pouring a bowl of cheerios counts! And I can't sing at all, but am really good in bed so it's all ok.
